TICA Show Results

Congratulations to Glass Citicats for a very successful show! When I arrived at the show on Friday afternoon the club hadn't quite finished setting up so things were a bit crazy. However, that didn't stop the entry clerk from greeting me at the front door and introducing himself and he shook my hand and thanked me for coming to the show! Wow... I can't remember having such a greeting at any of the CFA shows that I have too! Usually it's, give me your money and I will tell you where you are benched. I was really taken back from this greeting. Immediately I felt welcome and appreciated for being there.

I entered 3 kittens: Startrax It's About Time, Startrax She's All That and Startrax Moody Blue. Over the coarse of the weekend we made a total of 11 finals! How exciting! I want to thank all of the other Persian breeders that were genuinely happy for my wins, as they seem to appreciate the quality of the cats. I really had a nice time.

The show was sponsored by Royal Canin and they greeted us with champagne and fondue on Friday night. On Saturday the club organized a seminar on genetics and afterwards there was a reception. The show was all about the animals and making people feel welcome and having a good time. This is not the first time that I have been to a TICA show and it won't be the last either. The show hotel was very clean and pet friendly. The vendors were excellent and there were lots of them to pick up anything from a catnip toy to shampoo. Thanks again Glass Citicats for an excellent show! See you again next year.

The next TICA show in the Great Lakes Region is March 10th and 11th in Dayton Ohio. Check out their website for more information www.tica.org

Sherman finished 3rd best in show

Here is the official report - Sherman finished 3rd in the show. I knew what a fantastic show he had.

He has really bonded with me now too. He talks to me all the time and when I get ready in the morning he sits on the toilet or the counter waiting for me to get done. He now wants me to hold him and I scratch his neck, and he loves it. When I go to the bathroom, he insists on sitting on my lap.

Sherman's Last Kitten Show, Dec 31, 2006

Sherman performing for the judge

His last kitten show was absolutely perfect. He looked great, and judges commented on his impeccable grooming and on his beautiful big eyes, especially the intense eye color. The show was held in Janesville, WI, a one day show. Five judges in the morning and five judges in the afternoon. There was a total of 32 kittens, of which 19 were longhair kittens. Sherman made 9 out of 10 finals!!! This is what he got: 2 AB, 3 SP, 3 SP, 4 AB, 4 SP, 4 AB, 2 AB, 7 AB, 5 SP.

Exhibitors that have seen him since he was 4 months old were just amazed at how big he was and how beautiful. One judge told me he has the prettiest face. I had so much fun with him at the show and he really loves showing. He always stands up and plays with any judge that is willing to pull out a toy.

He will be altered in January, then his next show will be January 27-28, 2007. Looking forward to that show.

Shermans 3rd show, Portage IN, Nov 18-19, 2006

Sherman the cat toy thief

It was a tough show as there were 7 persian kittens, three of which were in his color class - solid division. There was a blue persian that was there from Texas and her kittens have always done very well. In addition, there was a breeder that seems to show up in this part of the country that has beautiful cats. Sherman made 2 finals, an 8th best Allbreed out of 48 kittens, and a 3rd best specialty out of 22 kittens. For a tough show, I think he did quite well.

His last kitten show will be in Janesville, WI, on December 31st. It will be a split format show, 5 judges in the morning and 5 in the afternoon. There can only be 125 total cats entered because of the split format. I'm hoping he will do well for his last show as a kitten.

Sherman is a cat toy thief. Since his first show, he grabs the toy and runs back into his cage with it. He does this at home too. This time I closed the door so I could get the pictures of him with the toy in his mouth.

Sherman's Second TICA Show

Sherman in the judging ring

Sherman was up against 3 other persian kittens this weekend. The same 2 white kittens from the last show and then a friend of mine had a black and white kitten from Whozz Cattery - a lot of international winners. Bill Lee was AB and gave him a 2nd best, and Susan Lee, for her first show judging gave him 5th best SP. Sunday morning, I noticed he didn't seem to feel well. He went to the first ring, and he wouldn't open his eyes very wide. I brought him back to my cage and he just didn't seem himself. I went to the next ring, Dewane Barnes, and he had finalled him the last time, so I knew this was going to be a hard decision. I put Sherman in the cage, then tried to get his attention with a toy. He barely looked up at it, and would only open his eyes half way. He also had been making funny movements with his mouth. I told Dewane I was going to pull him, as I didn't think he felt well.

I had a friend of mine that is a persian breeder look at him, and it seemed he was starting to lose a molar in the back, and he was grinding his teeth to get it out. Because of this he just didn't feel well. So, I pulled him for the rest of the day today, but I don't feel bad about it - just bad that he didn't feel well. I wasn't driving home, riding with a friend, and he seemed to be better. He had gotten up out of his little bed before we left, and he sat in my lap all the way home. If it had to happen, glad it was now when he is still young, and not his last show. We have another show in 2 weeks, so all is not lost.

Sherman's First TICA Show

Sherman sitting

There were 5 persians, counting Sherman. Two whites which were up against him in the solid division, one tortie and one bi-color (black/white). This was a 3-day show and I was there for Saturday and Sunday. There were around 70 kittens competing so it was a tough show. He made 3 finals, 8th AB, 6th AB, and 3rd SP. Fate Mayes, gave him the 8th AB and 3rd SP. I knew he would like him and I was right. When I went to get him, he said, Now that's a cute kitten. On Sunday after judging he asked me where I got him from. I knew he would ask that also. And funny thing, Bill Lee was clerking for him and I asked him if he knew you and he said Yes. I told him Sherman was your breeding. Later today he told me that Fate told he Sherman's body was fabulous. Dewane Barnes gave him an AB final today. Dewane is big on persians that have good boning, weight, and eyes that are wide open. He really gets mad at most of the persians in our region because they won't open their eyes all the way. He was trying to decide between Sherman and the 7 1/2 month old, but she wouldn't open her eyes wide enough.

Good old Sherman though sits right up to the cage door with big, wide eyes, which get bigger if you flash a toy in his face. Everyone at my benching got such a kick out of him. I got him a wand toy with those wind up springs on the end. He would grab a hold of it, then pull on the spring, then run into his cage with it.
